UC Browser and Download Manager For BlackBerry 9300 Curve 3G

UC Browser-Download Manager For BlackBerry

UPDATE: UC Browser For BlackBerry installation seems to have some issues on BB models running on OS 5. To make use of this mobile browser, you are advised to upgrade to BlackBerry OS 6.0.

Some time ago, I was contacted by the guys at UC Web to help them promote their free mobile web browser, UC Browser but I declined ’cause the browser still wasn’t compatible with my BlackBerry Curve 3 device. Just yesterday one of my commentators alerted me to the fact that a new version of the browser had been released and boy it’s simply awesome as it now includes what most BlackBerry users have been dying for: A functional internet download manager for BlackBerry phones with Pause and Resume download functions.

Just like Opera Mini, the UC Browser uses advanced compression technology and advanced cloud computing technology to drastically make browsing on mobile phones faster and a lot more stable as well as reducing data costs and consumption by up to 85%.

Truth be told, web pages load 3 times faster on UC Browser 7.8 than Opera Mini 6.1 as far as I could tell from my tests. This could also mean that Opera’s turbo servers are gradually getting congested Sad smile.

Web pages and images can easily be saved with a .uhtml extension for later viewing or sharing via Twitter, SMS or Bluetooth.

The embedded File Manager allows access to open, delete and share your files by Bluetooth in UC Browser. Text, Music and Video files are all opened via the BlackBerry Browser while other file types are opened with their default applications like Documents to Go.

With the SMS function, you can easily text any number from the web browser but do please note that this function makes use of the available credit on your phone. IT’S NOT FREE!

UC Browser’s Super Download Manager is what trips me the most. Opera Mini and BOLT have always had issues downloading files that weren’t 3GP, MP4 or MP3. Downloads were always cut off at 4.8MB which was quite frustrating and in some cases, the downloads never even started at all. This new mobile phone browser changes that all.

As you can see in the screen captures below, downloading large files on your blackberry phone with UC Browser is TOTALLY possibleWinking smile.

Simply click on your download link and UC Browser prompts you to save the file. Save the file to a directory on your microSD card and the download begins at once. If the network is kinda bad or you have other important browsing to do on your device, simply pause the download from the Menu and when you are ready to resume the download, go to menu and hit Resume.

NOTE: The beauty of UC Browser’s download manager lies in the fact that during my tests, I paused a download, shut down UC Browser, switched off my BlackBerry and switched it on again, opened UC Browser and I was still able to resume my downloads! UNBELIEVABLE!

Out of fear, when the download was complete, I checked for file integrity and the file was intact! Sheer fabulousity Winking smile

My last article on BlackBerry File Download Managers is now kinda obsolete with the arrival of this fabulous web browser.

The only downside I’ve noticed with the UC Browser is its’ inability to handle style sheets (css) properly as numbered lists on web pages are somewhat of askew.

More interesting features of the new UC Browser 7.8 can be seen at their main site.

To download UC Browser to your BlackBerry device, simply go to http://wap.ucweb.com/ via the default browser.

Have fun downloading large files of any type on your BlackBerry device with UC Browser 7.8 and the data included in your BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) plan.

most of the uninstalled application are still in my bb application world , is it possible for me to remove them permanetly. not to show again when i logged into bb app world

    • Udegbunam Chukwudi says:

Uninstalled apps are listed normally in app world so that you can reinstall them again in the future if you want to.

  2. Abdulraheem says:

Do I have to change the network to BIS or leave it at the default(does it matter?)

    • Udegbunam Chukwudi says:

Leave it as default man. I was also thinking the same thing but after downloading over 50MB and my credit wasn’t touched at all, I was convinced that the default settings had to stay ;-)

There some of those things that i don’t even need again cos I used ♍γ̲̣̣̥ sim on one of ma frnd fone and did backup, when I now got ♍γ̲̣̣̥ own fone and did restored, it beings almost evrything on that fone including the contact and application. Though I ve try to remove those application but they are still showing on ♍γ̲̣̣̥ fone and ♍γ̲̣̣̥ fone memory has drastically reduced.

    • Udegbunam Chukwudi says:

The files might have being in your backup and thus when you restored the backup, they showed up again. Try deleting them again and removing your battery

    • Udegbunam Chukwudi says:

Hmmm. I really wonder why that is happening on your phone. On all OS 6 Blackberries I tried it, it worked. Hope you are using the default browser of your BB and not Opera Mini or Bolt. Try it again. It’s meant to autoinstall.

Thanx for a great job, I use a BB9780 (Bold 4) & wen I try to donload using the UC Browser by selecting either d memory card or fone memory, it gives an error saying that UC Browser Has Attempted To Open a connection to a location inside the firewall and outside d firewall which is not allowed by your IT firewall. I use BIS & my BB was brought from outside d country.
Pls wat do I do? My pin:26A0F781.

  8. Jason says:

Hey, I seem to be having a problem. Whenever I try to downlad I seem to be restricted by the block size setting. Is there anyway to remove the block size or bypass the limit. The maximum limit is 5mb.

    Thanks in advance!

  9. tope says:

Hello, according to what I read, the uc browser cannot work with bb os 5. is possible and safe to upgrade my os to 6.

    • Chukwudi Emmanuel Udegbunam says:

        • Chukwudi Emmanuel Udegbunam says:

What network are you on? I’m really at loss of a solution for this your problem oh. Have you tried changing the setting to BIS then rebooting your phone by removing and putting the battery back in?

  11. Rounderz says:

Hey, this browser is awesome when downloading , I’ve been downloadin files up to 200mb on my BB 9300 3G, whch is super cool. The guy with block size problem shuld decrease it (on setting>preferences) to anything less then 5mb.. But I also hv a problem, can u plz explain to how to avoid the annoying “oops” page when I’m tryin to load a new page… This is wher this browser really sucks.

    • Chukwudi Emmanuel Udegbunam says:

From time to time I also do get those error pages and the only *cure* for them is to try loading the pages later though I’ve noticed that some websites don’t load on UC Browser if they’ve been banned in China or something like that
