Bolt Mobile Browser To Be Discontinued

Bolt Browser Installation Files Discontinued

A few minutes ago, I got word via Mister Mobility that the Bolt Bowser was soon going to be no more and I verified this while trying to check my Google Adsense stats via the Bolt Browser For BlackBerry.

I got the following notice:

Dear BOLT User
The free BOLT mobile browsing service will be discontinued. Unfortunately, the economic circumstances prevent us from running a free service going forward. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your loyalty and support.
The BOLT Team

Looks like moves to monetize the free mobile browser hasn’t paid off well and now the developers are running at a big fat loss with no big corporation to buy them off. Personally I felt the ads they suddenly started displaying in the browser were tacky as hell but I guess they had bills to pay.

Till date, Bolt remains probably the only free mobile browser application for BlackBerry that supported HTML5 audio and video streaming and Geolocation support. Its’ mobile internet download manager feature has already been somewhat perfected by the team at UC Browser which is currently the most functional internet download manager for blackberry devices.

It’s expected that the application would become obsolete come December 14, 2011 but no word yet on if the browser will stop functioning then even for users who already have it installed on their devices.

I tried getting the installation files but looks like they’ve already been deleted off their servers. The forums seem to be have been deleted as well Sad smile

Bolt Browser will most definitely be missed by yours truly as it served as the only reliable way of verifying the display of certain JavaScript codes on my sites while on the go without a PC in sight.

I sincerely wish them the best Winking smile.
