Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Battery Issues, Fix and Battery Life Test

After days of delay, I finally got my hands on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Prime. As was my experience with the Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime, setting up the Note 2 Prime wasn’t hassle free. The device shipped with a customized ROM which I immediately upgraded to Stock ROM via Mi recovery then Fastboot mode.

Then started the battery issues. The battery stats were just erratic. You charge the phone switched off and when it hits 100% and you turn it on, the meter reads 93%. You charge it up to 100% and reboot and the meter goes down to 80%.

Solution: Flash the device in Fastboot Mode using MiFlash. Check out the guide here. If you’re having battery issues with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Prime I strongly recommend you flash the device to stock ROM first.

The 16GB and 32GB versions of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 ship with a removable 3060mAh battery which is said to support fast charging according to GSMArena i.e the device can attain 60% charge in 30 minutes (similar to Quick Charge 2.0). Well in my experience, this is wrong info OR maybe the device actually supports fast charging but requires a special charger for that. In fact when reviewing Xiaomi’s sales page for the Redmi Note 2, there’s absolutely no mention of fast charging.

The device ships with a 5V/2A charger which charges 1%/min until 90% when the charging slows down. Switched off, the Redmi Note 2 will charge from 0% to 100% in 2 hours.

With regards to battery life, I’m yet to use the device as a daily driver as I’m waiting for the Global ROM which ships with Google Play Services by default ( Global ROMs for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 should be out after November 11, 2015 when the device will be launched in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Taiwan)

I did a video battery life test and my results were short of 7 minutes compared to GSMArena’s results. The device was able to play 720P HD videos for 6hrs 30 minutes before hitting the 10% battery level mark. The device has two battery modes; Performance and Balanced and runs in Balanced mode by default. I ran the video battery test in both modes and got the exact same results. Pretty weird right?

Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Battery Life Results

GSMArena’s test was done on MIUI 6 while I did mine on MIUI 7 and with similar results, Xiaomi’s claim that MIUI7 improves average to moderate battery usage by 10% needs to be revised. MIUI 7 still needs WORK!

This is all I have for now on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 related battery issues, fix and longevity. I will update this post when I start using the device as a daily driver. If you’ve got any questions, I’d be glad to answer them for you. Just leave a comment.
