Dell Vostro V131 Overview and Sale

With HP-Compaq practically on a suicide mission, looks like its closest competitor, Dell is on standby to take over as their share prices have already started rising. Today we take a closer look at one of Dell's small business laptop, the Dell Vostro V131.

This successor to the Vostro V13O is the thinnest, most portable notebook in the Vostro family and features a standard voltage 2.3GHz Intel Core i5-2410M CPU processor and 4GB DDR3 RAM making it blazing fast for a small business laptop.

BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 Review: A Slimmer and Faster Workhorse

BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 Review

Despite been scheduled for a September 2011 release, the new BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 has finally made its way into the major mobile markets and has managed to create some sort of frenzy amongst loyal BlackBerry users. Unfortunately I ain't so impressed and if I ever decide to get this new addition to the BlackBerry Bold family, it would be because of the following features:

  1. Crystal clear BlackBerry OS 7 Liquid Graphics technology powered 2.8-inch, 640 x 480 pixel capacitive touchscreen
  2. Large, spacious QWERTY keyboard
  3. Excellent battery life

Encased within solid stainless steel bezel with carbon-fiber and coming in at 115 x 66 x 10.5 mm, the BB Bold 9900 is the slimmest BlackBerry to date. Noticeable is the fact that the screen lock/unlock button at the middle of the top of the phone has been made prominent thus no longer requiring long fingernails to push in some cases.

RIM seems to be pushing the device with the promise of a whole new system in BlackBerry OS 7 which they recently claimed features 40% faster browsing and fluid operation twice the speed offered by BlackBerry OS 5. Backed with a swift 1.2 GHz processor with 768 MB RAM and 8 GB of onboard memory, they manage to cover the faster speed claims but truth be told, BlackBerry OS 7 only bears little difference to the not so long ago released BlackBerry OS 6.

NOTE: If your device is still using BlackBerry OS 5 and you'd like to upgrade to OS 6.0, please read How To Upgrade To BlackBerry OS 6. In the event that after the upgrade, your device is left with less memory for apps and all that, you can increase your device's memory by taking a look at How To Increase Memory In BlackBerry OS 6.0. Also with the improvement on speed, rebooting your BB device no longer takes forever Winking smile

UC Browser and Download Manager For BlackBerry 9300 Curve 3G

UC Browser-Download Manager For BlackBerry

UPDATE: UC Browser For BlackBerry installation seems to have some issues on BB models running on OS 5. To make use of this mobile browser, you are advised to upgrade to BlackBerry OS 6.0.

Some time ago, I was contacted by the guys at UC Web to help them promote their free mobile web browser, UC Browser but I declined 'cause the browser still wasn't compatible with my BlackBerry Curve 3 device. Just yesterday one of my commentators alerted me to the fact that a new version of the browser had been released and boy it's simply awesome as it now includes what most BlackBerry users have been dying for: A functional internet download manager for BlackBerry phones with Pause and Resume download functions.

Just like Opera Mini, the UC Browser uses advanced compression technology and advanced cloud computing technology to drastically make browsing on mobile phones faster and a lot more stable as well as reducing data costs and consumption by up to 85%.

Truth be told, web pages load 3 times faster on UC Browser 7.8 than Opera Mini 6.1 as far as I could tell from my tests. This could also mean that Opera's turbo servers are gradually getting congested Sad smile.

Web pages and images can easily be saved with a .uhtml extension for later viewing or sharing via Twitter, SMS or Bluetooth.

The embedded File Manager allows access to open, delete and share your files by Bluetooth in UC Browser. Text, Music and Video files are all opened via the BlackBerry Browser while other file types are opened with their default applications like Documents to Go.

With the SMS function, you can easily text any number from the web browser but do please note that this function makes use of the available credit on your phone. IT'S NOT FREE!

UC Browser's Super Download Manager is what trips me the most. Opera Mini and BOLT have always had issues downloading files that weren't 3GP, MP4 or MP3. Downloads were always cut off at 4.8MB which was quite frustrating and in some cases, the downloads never even started at all. This new mobile phone browser changes that all.
