Due to certain regulations in China, devices sold in the chinese market do not come with Google services by default. End-users are expected to install them on their own. This is why most Xiaomi users are drawn to Global ROMs as aside from supporting quite an array of languages, they also come with all important Google apps and services by default.
Installing Google services on Xiaomi devices has always been possible via the use of this app Google Installer. Unfortunately the app can be quite troublesome sometimes with issues such as speed issues and download interruption.
Here’s an easy way of getting the Google apps you need on your Xiaomi device running MIUI 6 and 7. This method doesn’t require rooting your device or installing custom recovery at all. I tested it on the Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime running MIUI 6 Stable Chinese ROM and it worked just fine.
Simple download GAPPS, extract the files and install them one by one. This package contains Google Play Store, Google Play Services, Google Services Framework, Google Calendar Sync, Google Contacts Sync and Google Account Manager.
DO NOT LAUNCH THE APPS. JUST INSTALL AND EXIT. If you launch the apps without rebooting, they will all keep crashing!
Once you’re done installing them all, reboot your device and then launch Google Play Store.
That’s all. Other Google Play apps like Music, Books, Games are readily available for download in the store.
Enjoy!
