Video: Mpow Flame2 Issues – One Month After

I’ve been using the $20 Mpow Flame 2 for over a month now and in as much as I love it, at this point in time I think you’d be getting better quality with Xiaomi’s offerings. The build quality of the Mpow Flame 2 looked pretty good until now.

As a whole the package is pretty complete and the pros are extensive.

In the box, you’ll find

  1. Two wireless earbuds
  2. Three sets of different sized ear wings
  3. Three sets of different sized silicone ear tips
  4. One set of memory foam ear tips
  5. A padded EVA plastic carrying case
  6. A plastic cable clip
  7. A plastic cable length adjuster
  8. A Micro USB charging cable
  9. An owners manual

You’re getting a pair of earbuds that will stay in place while you run and workout and that will give you up to 9hrs of music at maximum volume though Mpow claims 12hrs of battery life.

It supports SBC and AAC codec,IPX7-rated for water resistance, takes less than 2hrs to fully charge and you can successfully pair it to two devices at the same time.

The sound reproduction is pretty good for non-audiophiles. In my opinion, there’s a lot more focus on vocals than bass. There’s no active noise cancelation. Phone calls are great as I’ve never had any complaints from my callers and I can hear them well thanks to CVC 6.0 technology which aims to take care of background noise.

My major problem with it is the build quality as 2 weeks into using it, the shirt clip broke. I didn’t even know it had broken until I saw the pieces on the floor.

The paint job or plastic has started to show signs of wearing off after just 1 month. I tend to use an oily sunscreen all over my face and ears so maybe the oil from the sunscreen is part of what is causing the wear. I honestly don’t know.

Looks like I might be searching for new earbuds sooner than I expected IF I can’t tolerate the peeling of the paint job.
