Recently I ordered the Soon Jung pH5.5 Relief Toner which I’ll be adding to my skin care routine soon and in the package I was pleasantly surprised to receive 2ml samples of the KLAIRS Soft Airy UV Essence and TONYMOLY UV Master Aqua Sun Gel as I’ve been dying to try other Korean sunscreens after my tragic outing with the SOME BY MI Truecica Mineral 100 Calming Suncream.

The KLAIRS Soft Airy UV Essence has an SPF 50 rating with PA4+ rating for UVA protection. It’s a vegan friendly, water based sunscreen with gel like texture which promises to be less irritating to the skin and eyes, extremely light-stable and not oily or matte.

It has just two UV filters which are Uvinul A Plus and Uvinul T150 with Tocopherol as the main antioxidant.

The TONYMOLY UV Master Aqua Sun Gel also comes as a watery gel formula offering PA4+ UVA protection rating but with a higher UVB protection factor of 50+.

Unlike the KLAIRS Soft Airy UV Essence, it has 5 UV filters (Homosalate, Octocrylene, Octisalate, Tinosorb S and Avobenzone). Vitamin A Palmitate, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Green Tea extract and Hydroxyacetophenone serve as antioxidants to reduce free radicals.

On application both sunscreens blend well into the skin in less than 2 minutes leaving zero residues on my skin and beard area. Unlike its claim, the TONYMOLY UV Master Aqua Sun Gel feels a little bit thicker than a watery gel and smells nice but not overpowering as it has fragrance in it.

The KLAIRS Soft Airy UV Essence does live up to its’ not oily and not matte claim and both sunscreens didn’t sting around the eye area. I was able to wear them both comfortably throughout the day without issues until I engaged in sporting activity and the TONYMOLY entered my eyes at which point it did sting.

I’m quite impressed with both sunscreens but due to its’ better eye tolerability with not oily not matte finish, the KLAIRS Soft Airy UV Essence is the clear winner here for me and the one I’d actually purchase in big size.

Hopefully this one day experience stays true for longer wear.
